DOLE, PBA Party list, SM to hold Jobs Fair on Sept. 23

DAVAO CITY (PIA) -- The Puwersa ng Bayaning Atleta (PBA) Partylist, together with the Department of Labor and Employment-XI (DOLE)-XI and SM City Davao, will be holding a jobs fair on September 23 at the activity center of SM City in Matina.

The activity dubbed as the "Oplan Kabuhayan Jobs Fair" will have 40 participating local employers with 1,804 jobs available for interested jobseekers.

DOLE-XI Regional Director Randolf Pensoy said currently there are 10 overseas employers with others still complying with requirements set forth by the Department of Migrant Workers.

“We have a new department the Department of Migrant Workers, the DOLE will no longer handle those for overseas workers,” Pensoy said.

Puwersa ng Bayaning Atleta Partylist Representative Migs Nograles during the Kapehan sa Dabaw at SM City Davao, Sept. 11, explains that the joint collaboration with DOLE, City Government of Davao and SM to hold a jobs fair aims to provide more jobs for Dabawenyos.

He revealed the top job vacancies for the coming Oplan Kabuhayan Fair include delivery riders, operation management trainee, bus conductor, bus drivers, food and beverage servers, cashiers, body and paint technician, machine operators, sales manager, kitchen associate, property sales consultant, and front of office associate.

“We also have top five overseas job offerings: healthcare professionals, cleaners, construction or engineers/ plumbers/ electricians, the salon workers, and the teachers,” the DOLE-XI chief said.

For PBA Partylist Representative Migs Nograles, the Oplan Kabuhayan Jobs Fair traces its roots to an event organized by her father, the late House Speaker Prospero Nograles, in 2006 which was also held in SM City.

“This was two days before his birthday in October 25 and 26. Iit was a two-day event and eventually became an annual event consecutively carried out by my brothers, former Congressman and now Chairman of the Civil Service Commission Karlo Nograles, and former PBA partylist Representative, former Congressman Koko Nograles,” Rep. Migs Nograles said of the job’s fair history.

She added that even during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the PBA partylist continued the jobs fair thru the online platform.

She said the joint collaboration with DOLE, City Government of Davao and SM, the objective of the jobs fair is to provide more jobs for Dabawenyo in the hope of achieving a 100% employment rate. The current employment rate in Davao City is 96.7% as of April 2023. (RGA/PIA Davao)
