Aklan's micro rice retailers get cash assistance

KALIBO, Aklan (PIA) -- Twenty-nine micro rice retailers from Aklan’s five towns served as the initial recipients of the government’s cash assistance per the Department of Social Welfare and Development  (DSWD) 6 report.

The latter, with the full support of various agencies and offices like the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Provincial Government of Aklan, National Food Authority (NFA), Department of Agriculture (DA), Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and Philippine National Police (PNP), led the distribution of government aid here on September 14 at the Provincial Trade Hall, Capitol Grounds.

The DTI, headed by Provincial Director Ma. Carmen Iturralde, identified the recipients of the cash assistance based on the required documents and permits stipulated by the government.

Each of the recipients received P15,000.00 from the DSWD 6 staff who served as tellers in the said distribution activity.

A short program was held at the venue before the distribution of the cash assistance.

In his message, Arwin Razo, DSWD 6 Assistant Regional Director for Operations thanked the beneficiaries for complying with Executive Order No. 39 of President Ferdinand Marcos mandating rice price cap on regular and well-milled rice, telling them that the cash assistance is provided by the government to compensate for their losses.

Razo also thanked the partner agencies for monitoring and identifying the rightful recipients of the cash assistance.

For his part, Provincial Administrator lawyer Selwyn Ibarreta, who represented Governor Jose Enrique Miraflores in the activity, thanked the rice retailers for heeding Executive Order No. 39 issued by the President to provide affordable food to consumers.

He also thanked and congratulated the DSWD, DTI, NFA, DA, and other partner agencies for their part in expediting the distribution of the cash assistance to the rice retailers coming from Lezo, Numancia, Kalibo, Batan, and Altavas.

Josefina Villegas, 83 years old and a rice retailer from Altavas, Aklan, was one of the first recipients to arrive at the venue.

She expressed her gladness to be one of the primary recipients of the cash assistance.

“Mabahoe gid ro akon nga pagpasaeamat sa gobyerno sa pagbaton ko ngara it bulig. Maisot man lang ro akon nga pwesto sa Altavas pero gapasaeamat gid ako ay halista ako (I am very thankful to the government  for  this assistance. My stall at the Altavas Public Market is very small but I am thankful to be in the list),” said Villegas.

As partner agencies are still conducting monitoring and profiling of beneficiaries in the rest of Aklan towns, the DSWD said another set of cash distributions will be scheduled soon in the province. (AGP/VGV/PIA Aklan)
