Antique under a state of calamity due to Typhoon Goring

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) -- The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of the Province of Antique approved Resolution No. 860 series of 2023 putting the province under a state of calamity due to damages during the onslaught of typhoon “Goring."

Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao in an interview, emphasized the need for this declaration so the government could provide necessary help for the families and communities affected by the calamity.

She directed all concerned agencies under the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) to ensure that all affected will receive relief assistance and given the necessary help for their recovery.

She said that the province has a Quick Response Fund for this year in the amount of P28.4 million and P9.1 million, which will be allotted to help the victims of the recent calamity get back to their normal lives.

Priority will be given to families who need food/relief assistance, those who lost their houses, families with casualties among other individuals who are in need of help.

Data PDRRMC reported that there are 14 municipalities affected covering 311 barangays and 21,273 families.

STY Goring also brought damages to 551 houses, of which, 92 are totally damaged and 459 are partially-damaged.

The agriculture sector also incurred huge losses of more than P106 million for crops, P21.9 million for aquaculture/fishery sector, and P4.2 million for poultry and livestock.


For infrastructure, PDRRMC reported more than P 51 million in damages to roads, bridges, and other vital installations.

The three hard-hit towns namely Hamtic, Sibalom, and San Remigio, have already declared a state of calamity to this effect, in addition to the earlier declaration of the towns of San Jose and Belison due to the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF).

The PDRRMC has also tackled the proposed activities and programs of the 70% DRRM Fund  for calendar year 2024 worth P69,697, 258.40, as well as the list of programs, projects, and activities for next year. (AGP/PSM/PIA Antique with reports from GIP interns)
