Tourist info center now open in Antique

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) -- The provincial government here opened its Tourist Information Center at the historic Old Provincial Capitol, September 8, to accommodate travelers and tourists wishing to explore this province.

The Tourist Information Center, located at the east wing of the Old Provincial Capitol, is intended to provide assistance to both local and foreign travelers who prefer solo or non-guided tours.

Trained tourism personnel operate the information center during working hours from Monday to Friday, helping visitors find accommodation, local cuisine, tourism sites, and cultural activities guests can delve into.

The information center will also be equipped with an internet connection and a lounge, according to Provincial Tourism Officer JC Cadiao Perlas, who stressed the importance of giving guests a warm Antiqueño welcome.

During the launching of Tourism Month 2023 on the same day, Perlas said that the Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office continues to advocate for sustainable tourism especially the Antique boasts its rich biodiversity.

With the theme “Tourism and Green Investment,” he noted that tourism must remain anchored on cultural preservation and environmental sustainability as it continues to be at the forefront of the province’s economic growth.

This year’s celebration of Tourism Month 2023 emphasizes the need to secure a balance between development and the environment and to be watchful of the impact of human activities on nature.

The official also cited the important role of the “Tumanduk,” or ethnic Antiqueños, in tourism and environmental conservation since they serve as the first line of defense against unchecked tourist activities.

Perlas then cited the initiatives of the provincial government and all stakeholders in securing the distinct cultural identity of the province for it to live on amongst future generations.

Over recent years, Antique has been in the works to safe keep its cultural assets and it has already produced the heirloom recipe book “Flavors of Antique," the collection of photographs from Antique’s past entitled “Handurawan," and the Antiqueño cultural compendium “Duna, Kinaiya kag Paranublion.”

For her part, Governor Rhodora Cadiao expressed enthusiasm for Antique becoming a key destination in the tourism map of the country while committing to maintain the province's valued tourism treasures, its lush greeneries and rich culture. (AGP/BPS/PIA Antique)
