WV 4Ps model families, exemplary children recognized

ILOILO CITY (PIA) - - The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 6 has named the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program(4Ps) model families and exemplary children in the region for the year 2023.

They were recognized during the awarding ceremonies for the Regional Search for Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya and Regional Search for Exemplary 4Ps Children held on September 14 at SM City Iloilo in Mandurriao district here.

Both searches were developed to recognize children and family beneficiaries who set examples at home, in school, and in their respective communities. These also intend to encourage families and children to be responsible not only in complying with the program’s conditions and ideals but more so in becoming outstanding citizens.

This year's top winner for the Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya is the Marcelino family of Brgy. Guintacgan, Carles, Iloilo.  Rommel and wife, Estrellita and children received their trophy and cash prize of P15,000.00 during the awarding.

In his ‘salaysay’ submitted, Rommel shared on how the program helps them face the challenges confronting them especially on health, education and poverty. He is hoping that his family’s story of change will inspire more beneficiaries.

Through the government’s scholarship programs, Rommel’s eldest and second daughters are now licensed teacher and engineer. Both are now working and

helping the studies of their four siblings.

The Dapat family of Pontevedra, Capiz was adjudged second and Manlangit family of Sagay City, Negros Occidental, third.

On the other hand, seven contestants from the different provinces in the region participated in the Regional Search for Exemplary 4Ps Children which was conducted before the awarding ceremony. Participants showcased their talent, intelligence and wit and personality in front of the audience and shoppers of the mall.

Louraine Gail Calibo of Cadiz City, Negros Occidental emerged as the champion. She won P10,000 cash prize and trophy. Shyvonne Reed Mabierso of Iloilo province second, won P8,000 and troph while Aira Tanaleon of Guimaras province, third, took home P5,000 and trophy.

A consolation prize of P2,000 and trophy

were each received by the following finalists: Andrea Villorente of Aklan; Mikaela Demamay of Antique; Alexander Luis De Leon of Capiz; and Elisea Flor Maday of Negros Occidental.

The top winners of the two contests will become national and regional ambassadors in advocating the program and its thrusts in health and education.

DSWD 6 Pantawid Pamilya Division Chief Belen Gebusion, in her message, lauded the winners and urged them, especially the children to continue to show to the taxpayers that the program is really doing well in as far as addressing the poverty concerns so that other poorest of the poor families in the region and nationwide will continue to benefit from the program.

This year the program covers around 345,919 household beneficiaries in Western Visayas. (AAL/LAF/PIA6-Iloilo)
