QUEZON CITY (PIA) -- The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has turned over the handheld ticketing devices and other equipment to the cities of Taguig and Marikina for the implementation of the Single Ticketing System (STS).
MMDA Assistant General Manager for Operations David Angelo Vargas, Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano and Marikina City Administrator Janet Obispo led the ceremonies.
Apart from the 30 handheld ticketing devices, a server, server rack, UPS, work stations, printers, software, and 60 SIM cards were also given to the city governments.
The STS was institutionalized through the establishment of the Metro Manila Traffic Code of 2023, which was approved and adopted by the Metro Manila Council on February 1, 2023.
According to the guideline of STS, only authorized traffic personnel of the Land Transportation Office (LTO), MMDA, and Local Government Units can apprehend and issue a citation ticket.
Each authorized traffic personnel will eventually have a handheld device used in physically apprehending violators.
Traffic enforcers can use the device to print tickets, validate and authenticate driver’s license and vehicle registrations, check if the driver has acquired demerit points of if the license or registration is suspended, cancelled, or has an existing alarm. The device can also accept payment of fines among others. (PIA-NCR)
