MANILA, (PIA) — The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) and the Malabon City Government have solidified their commitment to the safety and well-being of students in the city.

This commitment was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) among PRC Secretary-General Dr. Gwen Pang, Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval, PRC Malabon City Chapter Ricky Sandoval, and Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Cecille Carandang of the Department of Education in a ceremony held at the City of Malabon University.

Other signatories include  Dr. Alexander Rosete, Malabon City Administrator and Member of PRC Board of Directors; Members of the Board of Directors of PRC; Dedicated Volunteers of the PRC Malabon City Chapter; and school principals and teachers of Malabon.

Mayor Jeannie said this partnership is a significant step toward enhancing disaster preparedness and promoting a culture of volunteerism in the city, and among the youth.

Under the terms of the MOA, every student, from Grade 1 to senior high school, along with teachers and staff of schools in Malabon, will become a member of the Philippine Red Cross.

Aside from spreading the culture of volunteerism, this collaborative initiative also aims to raise awareness about disaster preparedness by engaging students, teachers, and staff.

The PRC and Malabon City Government intend to educate the community about the importance of being prepared for disasters.

Likewise, the initiative also promotes access to healthcare knowledge and practices that ensures individuals are well-equipped to address health-related challenges.

Moreover, it fosters safety and lifesaving skills through training and awareness programs, where participants will not only learn how to keep themselves safe but also acquire valuable skills to assist others in times of need.

We hope to encourage our students and the broader community to engage in voluntary activities that will help build a stronger and more resilient Malabon, Mayor Jeannie added. (PIA-NCR)
