Pregnant mothers in Iligan compete in Healthy Buntis Pageant 2023

ILIGAN CITY (PIA)--Seven pregnant mothers from clustered barangays here showcased their beauty and health as they vied for the title of "Healthy Buntis 2023."

The pageant is in line with the celebration of Family Month, emphasizing the promotion of excellent maternal health for pregnant women.

The City Health Office, Department of Health Region 10, Commission on Population and Development Region 10, Zuellig Family Foundation, The Challenge Initiative, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and other stakeholders led the initiative.

"The Healthy Buntis Pageant 2023 means that even during pregnancy, you can maintain good health by adopting positive sexual behaviors because becoming pregnant is the most important aspect for a mother, especially for women," said Dr. Ardel Padayhag, medical coordinator on Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome, and Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) on the Prevention Control Program at the City Health Office.

Following a question and answer portion, the pregnant candidates displayed their elegance in the production number and the long gown segment.

"I never expected to win. This pageant is not just about beauty; it's also a platform to showcase, shine, and share stories that inspire mothers," said Maria Bernadette Gooc from Barangay Kiwalan, who was crowned as Healthy Buntis 2023.

The event also raised awareness about teenage pregnancy, family planning, HIV, and STI. (LELA/PIA-10/Lanao del Norte)
