LAMUT, Ifugao (PIA) - - Adventurers can now look forward to a new experience in this town with the local government unit opening up kayaking at the Lamut River.
The LGU through the Municipal Tourism Office recently launched the kayaking during the Lamut Tourism Week celebration earlier this month. The kayaking activity starts at the Lawig Bridge to the Lamut Bridge spanning more than two kilometers.
Municipal Administrator Conrado Buccat said the kayaking activity is among the innovations initiated by the municipal government through the tourism office for the promotion of the tourism industry of the town.
“This is not only for the advantage of the LGU but for the whole municipality. We urge everyone to support the activity that will propel economic progress and jobs in the community,” Buccat said.
Municipal Tourism Officer Harvey Gumayon shared that kayaking is one of the proposed projects of Mayor Victomar Bunnol during the election campaign to develop the Lamut River as a potential tourism hub to propel economic development.
“When he won, we consulted experts for the possibility of kayaking adventure in the Lamut River. After the dry run with a team of experts, they advised that kayaking is possible with some developments to be done for the safety of adventurers,” he added.
Gumayon disclosed that they opened the idea for investors that led to the purchase of kayak boats. They conducted dry run using the units with the assistance of the Bureau of Fire Protection for more improvements before the launching of the kayaking activity, he stated.
He assured that the LGU and its partners are working hard to ensure that challenges are properly addressed for a more exciting and safer river adventure, before it can be fully opened to the public.
Lamut Kayakers Club President Brenda Sawad underscored that they fully support this adventure.
“We are looking forward for a fruitful activity because this is one of the best tourism packages of the municipal government,” Sawad stated. (JDP/MBL- PIA CAR, Ifugao)
