SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) -- The Provincial Selection Committee (PSC) invites local media practitioners and organizations to submit entries for the first-ever “Bayanihan Media Awards” which will be held annually beginning this year.
The nationwide Bayanihan Media Awards is an initiative of the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) which seeks to identify and recognize media practitioners and organizations for their contributions in promoting volunteerism to the public.
PNVSCA believes that the media is a crucial partner of the government in coordinating, converging, and linking volunteer programs, services, efforts, and resources to ensure that they are organized, systematic, and aligned with national priorities.
Alongside PNVSCA in initiating this awards program are the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) and the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC), represented by the University of Antique (UA) in this province.
In a radio program, UA Director for Information and Publication Saredith C. Sola underscored the huge role media plays in the community, especially in delivering news and information, providing public affairs services in their respective capacity, and inspiring their audiences to participate in causes, such as volunteering.
Sola said that it is high time that media organizations and personalities that have exhibited positive values and have exceptionally contributed to the community be acknowledged and given the distinction they deserve.
The UA and the PIA Antique, both members of the PSC, will gather and evaluate entries at the provincial level and will submit the selected provincial nominees to the Regional Selection Committee (RSC).
There are two categories- individual and organization/program- for each award type, namely: Best Volunteerism Reporting in Print Media, Best Volunteerism Reporting in Television, Best Volunteerism Reporting in Radio, and Best Volunteerism Reporting in Online Media.
Generally, nominees will be evaluated based on quality or how the produced content highlights the importance of volunteerism in national development; effectiveness and impact, or how the content encourages the public to engage in volunteerism; innovation, or uniqueness
and originality in presenting volunteerism; and sustainability, or the placement of mechanisms to ensure continuity of the program.
Among the provincial nominees, the winners at the regional level will receive incentives and automatically serve as nominees for the national search.
