“The DOT welcomed this proposition with great optimism considering that it well aligns with the vision of our President to give priority to the creative industry, recognizing the contribution of film, filmmakers, talents and all the personnel that are involve in pre, during and post-production of films in the Philippines contribute greatly to our economy on one hand, and can also provide further assets for tourism on the other hand,” added the tourism chief.
In his speech, FDCP Chairman and CEO Cruz expressed his gratitude towards the two other agencies for their dedication towards preserving Philippine film heritage.
“What we are all embarking on as we build the Film Heritage Museum is an aim to plant the seed of culture and history that will blossom and bear fruits for us, not just for our nation, but as the legacy of future generations to come; one that will give all of us a deep sense of pride for cultural and national identity. Our facilities will serve as a haven for enthusiasts, a source of deep and rich knowledge for students and a treasure trove of Philippine cinema for both our fellow citizens and visitors from all around the world,” he said.
Likewise, TIEZA COO Lapid also noted the collective effort of DOT and FDCP to showcase Philippine cinematic legacy and brand Intramuros as a prime tourism destination in Metro Manila.
“This agreement not only signifies our collective commitment to preserving our cinematic legacy, but also amplifies the allure of Intramuros as a prime tourist destination in Manila. It enhances the experience of what this iconic site can offer, making our history and culture even more accessible and engaging,” he said.
The Film Heritage Building is expected to become an addition to the notable tourism attractions within the historic walled city of Intramuros, offering tourists a remarkable journey through the evolution of Philippine cinema.
