IFSU performs good in ROTC Games Luzon leg,1 cadet bids for nat'l championship

LAMUT, Ifugao (PIA) --The Ifugao State University(IFSU) performed well  in the    recently concluded 1st Philippine Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) Games Luzon Regional Qualifying Leg II held at Cavite State University in Indang, Cavite from September 14-23, 2023.

The IFSU 11- cadet delegation  garnered  one gold, one silver, and two bronze medals in the contested events  placing University  in  8th place among the 33 Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) under the Army branch of service.

1st Philippine Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) Games Luzon Regional Qualifying Leg Gold medalist Avygail Ummas(l), silver medalist Sgt. Harold Jay Puhi and bronze medalist Sally Fernandez are presented to the IFSU community during the Sept. 25, 2023 flag raising ceremony.

Avygail Ummas clinched gold medal in the non-traditional arnis forms (anyo) single weapon category, securing her a spot in the forthcoming National Championship on October 18-24

The second year Bachelor of Science in Criminology student  at IFSU- Lamut Campus  also showcased her prowess and earned a bronze medal in the padded sparring-52 kilos.  

Sgt. Harold Jay Puhi demonstrated excellence and secured a silver medal in the kickboxing-60 kilos male category while Sally Fernandez  won  bronze medal in the padded sparring-63 kilos women category.

Balbin Chilagan, Anaclito Payton, Henry Bua, and Jay-ar Binwag  finished  respectable 8th place in the 4x400 meters relay.

University President Eva Marie Codamon-Dugyon together with National Service Training Program Director Leudane Loñez, ROTC Commandant Col. Edralin Poblete, and Sports and Development Director Karen Cumti led the IFSU team.


The Philippine ROTC Games is a joint collaboration of the Department of National Defense, the Commission on Higher Education, and the Philippine Sports Commission to promote both nationalism and sports within the ROTC program, contributing to the revitalization of the ROTC itself.  

It aims to fortify and promote sports education and create an avenue to showcase  their abilities in a competitive yet supportive environment while instilling value formation and character building in the lives of participating students.

 IFSU was  one of  the 77 HEIs  in regions I, II, III, IVA, IVB, V, and CAR that participated in the PRG Luzon Regional Qualifying Leg II. The HEIs were grouped per branch of service  namely Air Force, Army, and Navy.

The participating HEIs competed in various sports events including basketball 3x3 men, boxing, kickboxing, volleyball women, arnis, athletics, and E-sports: Call of Duty and Mobile Legends.
