CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)--As the country marks this year’s Consumer Welfare Month (CWM), the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Misamis Oriental rolled out the various activities it lined up to further strengthen the advocacy on consumer protection.
In a media briefing to kick off the month-long celebration, DTI Misamis Oriental Provincial Director Almer Masillones said they will hold the official launching of this year's celebration in partnership with the Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental on October 9 at the Provincial Capitol compound.
In the second week of October, which also coincides with National Standards Week, DTI MisOr will conduct a Standards Orientation to boost the public’s awareness of the importance and relevance of standards in their daily lives, especially the mandatory standards developed by the Bureau of Product Standards.
"We will also have an E-poster Making Contest in celebration of the National Standards Week. It will be on October 13 to be participated by Grades 9 and 10 students from both private and public high schools," Masillones further said.
Also happening on the same day (October 13) is the Provincial Quiz Bowl, where more than 150 Grades 9 & 10 students from both private and public schools under the school division offices of Misamis Oriental, Cagayan de Oro City, Gingoog City, and El Salvador City.
Masillones said one of the exciting events is the Market Vendors Quiz on October 18 at the Cogon Market. This will be participated by market vendors and will showcase their awareness of their responsibilities as vendors and as consumers in general.
In collaboration with Local Price Coordinating Councils, Operation Timbangan will likewise be simultaneously conducted on October 17 and 19 in Cagayan de Oro City, Gingoog City, and the municipalities of Tagoloan and Alubijid to check the accuracy of weighing scales and monitor compliance of stores to Fair Trade Laws.
"We also have the launching of our Misamis Oriental Retailers Association. There will be a general assembly and an IEC campaign on October 20," added Masillones.
The DTI Provincial Director also shared the staging of another Diskwento Caravan - Rice Edition to serve more consumers availing the P41 and P45 price cap for regular milled and well-milled rice, respectively.
DTI-MisOr will culminate the Consumer Welfare Month celebration with a Forum on Generation Sustainable on October 26 to highlight this year's celebration theme, "GenS: Generation Sustainable."
Masillones said the forum would emphasize sustainable consumption in support of the Sustainable Development Goals, which among these is 'responsible consumption and production'. (APB/PIA-10 Misamis Oriental)
