Gov’t workers  bring ‘smile to the last miles’ in Besao; hold Amazing Race

BONTOC, Mountain Province(PIA) --The celebration of the 123rd Civil Service Anniversary in the province  was highlighted with  activities  where  government workers   reached out  to children  in remote schools and  challenged their mental and physical fitness.

Civil Service Commission(CSC)-Mountain Province Director Anita Verina Paredes led  public employees  in an outreach activity dubbed  “Give a Smile to the Last Mile” in the municipality of  Besao on September 22,2023.

They  went to  geographically distant schools namely  Agawa Elementary School, Gueday Multi-grade School, Masameyeo Primary School and Lacmaan Elementary School to distribute school uniforms, hygiene kits, bags, school supplies, and snacks.

These were all provided through the collaborative efforts of the national line agencies and the provincial  government.

Paredes  said that through this activity, the  learners will be  inspired  in going to school.

“We gave these gifts to you so that you will study well. No one will now be saying he or she is absent because he or she doesn’t have a bag,” she shared.

Besao Mayor Bryne O. Bacwaden expressed gratitude to the civil servants, and challenged the beneficiaries to do good in their studies.

Aurita Baldas expressed voiced her gratefulness  for  the supplies her grandchildren received.

“Iyaman unay sinan blessings ay inpaali yu kendakami sina ay eskwelaan di Gueday, Agawa, Masameyeo ya Lacmaan. Thank you sinan amin ay participating agencies ya supporters sinan nay outreach. Iya-iyaman tay wada nan inted yu sinan an-ak mi,ap-o mi ay eskwela,” (Thank you so much for the blessings that you gave to the schools of Gueday, Agawa, Masameyeo and Lacmaan. Thank you to the participating agencies and all supporters of this outreach program. Thank you for all the things you gave  to our children,  our grandchildren who are studying)” she said.

On September 28, the provincial government went a notch higher with its  Thursday Hataw Program  in promoting  the well-being  of  employees as it  led  the first ever Provincial Amazing Race to challenge the employees’ mental and physical abilities.

Five teams from the different  offices competed in five different stations including obstacle courses, wearing of traditional clothing, potting and seed planting, and bucket relay.

Provincial Human Resources Management Officer Leonila Milagros F. Malla-ao shared that the activity  while physically and mentally challenging,   is a  work break for the participants. It also promotes teamwork.(JDP/CVBT-PIA CAR, Mt. Province)
