QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — The local government of Muntinlupa awarded its barangays that excel in risk reduction management.
Barangay Sucat was awarded as the Most Resilient Barangay in Muntinlupa. The said barangay also received additional special citations on best practices for the use of household electronic ID, use of barangay-wide early warning system, and having a fully-operational Operations Center.
Mayor Ruffy Biazon led the awarding with the City's Department of Disaster Resilience and Management (DDRM) yesterday, October 2.
"We are proud of our barangays for taking disaster preparedness and resilience seriously. Having our disaster response elevated at the local level gives assurance to Muntinlupeños that we are ready to deal with natural disasters and emergencies the best we can," Mayor Ruffy Biazon stated.
Barangay Chairperson Raffy Sevilla together with barangay kagawads received a plaque and P200,000 worth of disaster response equipment in behalf of the winning barangay.
Aside from Sucat, other barangays in Muntinlupa also received significant awards, namely: Poblacion (Special Citation for Best Practices on Use of Digitized Disaster Response Inventory Database); Putatan (Special Citation for Best Practices on Effective Pre-positioning of Disaster Response and Rescue Equipment); and Bayanan (Special Citation for Best Practices on Effective Information, Education, and Communications).According to the Muntinlupa PIO, the city's nine barangays underwent a rigorous process of evaluation by validators from the Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (LDRRMC). The barangays were evaluated in specific areas such as disaster preparedness, disaster prevention and mitigation, response and recovery, and rehabilitation.
The annual Search for Most Resilient Barangay in Muntinlupa is mandated by Executive Order No. 13, s. 2023, which aims to strengthen the functionality of the city's barangays in the area of risk reduction management, early warning systems, resource allocation, and competency.
