Luna town residents benefit from community-driven services

 SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA) – A range of social services were provided to seven barangays of Luna town through a caravan held in the municipality on September 30.
 
The barangays that benefitted from the caravan include Sto. Domingo Norte, Sto. Domingo Sur, Rimos 1, Rimos 2, Rimos 3, Rimos 4, and Rimos 5.
 
As part of the caravan, the local government unit (LGU) of Luna provided financial assistance to fire-affected residents of Barangay Rimos 3 while its Municipal Health Office (MHO) provided healthcare services including medical and dental consultations and other health examinations to the aforementioned barangays.
 

A payout of financial assistance for indigent senior citizens and students was also provided through the town’s Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, which also provided counseling services to clients as part of their services.
 
The Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center supplemented the health assistance provided by Luna town through health services in the form of consultations, assessments, and prescriptions for the elderly while the Philippine Red Cross-La Union Chapter provided free blood typing and sugar tests and a pharmacy booth to cater to the medicine needs of residents.
 
For their part, the provincial government of La Union set up a mobile dental and health clinic  while also handling the distribution of seedlings to enhance the agricultural produce of residents in the town.

The Municipal Agricultural Office meanwhile provided vitamins and other supplementation services for livestock owners of the barangays.
 
According to a post on the LGU Luna, La Union’s Facebook page, the various assistance provided was aimed at improving the quality of life of residents from the said barangays.
 
“Through these initiatives, we aim to enhance the well-being and quality of life of our fellow citizens, especially those in vulnerable and marginalized groups,” it said. (JCR/AMB/CCMT, PIA La Union)
