TARLAC CITY (PIA) -- Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) currently hosts the 2023 National State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (NSCUAA) Games.
It is in partnership with the provincial government of Tarlac and New Clark City (NCC).
During the opening held at NCC Athletics Stadium, TAU President Max Guillermo welcomed the delegation coming from various regions.
“I am honored and delighted to welcome you all to the National State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association Games 2023,” Guillermo said.
About 2,700 athletes; 600 coaches; and 900 officials and support staff from the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) participated in the sports events.
Guillermo emphasized that the event is more than just a sports competition as it embodies the spirit of unity, camaraderie, and excellence.
“It serves as a platform to showcase not only the exceptional athletic talents of our students but also their unwavering dedication to their academic pursuits,” he added.
Meanwhile, Governor Susan Yap expressed her support in the undertaking for the athletes to see the world-class facilities of the country as well as visit the tourist spots in the province.
“While you are here, we also encourage you to explore the various tourism destinations in our province such as the Japanese Tunnels and World War 2 Museum in the nearby municipality of Bamban,” she said.
Yap furthered that they are working on introducing NCC as a center of sports with National Academy of Sports housed in the area and Training Institute of the Philippines to begin construction in 2025.
For his part, PASUC President Tirso Ronquillo thanked TAU and the provincial government of Tarlac for accommodating their request to conduct the 2023 NSCUAA Games in the province.
“This is a world class facility and this is one of the reasons why the management committee decided to hold this 2023 NSCUAA Games after 5 long years of waiting. When the management committee visited this facility, we insisted that it should really be held in this beautiful New Clark City Athletics Stadium,” Ronquillo said.
Other venues for the games include Tarlac Recreational Park; Tarlac State University; Pook Likasan in Tibag, Tarlac City; TAU; Sta. Ignacia Auditorium; Barangay Malacampa Covered Court in Camiling; and Camiling Sports Complex. (CLJD/GLSB-PIA 3)
