Youth orgs, SM City Tuguegarao conduct peace run, concert

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA) - - Youth organizations based in this province that advocate peace, in partnership with SM City Tuguegarao, spearheaded the conduct of the 'Peace Fun Run and Peace Concert' as part of the culmination of the celebration of Peace Consciousness Month in September.

Organized by the Rotaract Club of Tuguegarao and Youth for Peace Cagayan (YFP), the activity, participated in by at least 100 registrants from both civilians and uniformed personnel, was able to generate more or less P20,000 from the registration fees and donors.

Angel Perez, president of the Rotaract Club of Tuguegarao, said the proceeds of the fun run will be utilized to support the needs of the Agta Wondong Christian Academy at Sitio Padungsul in Basao, Gattaran, Cagayan.

Sitio Padungsul is one of the sitios in the province categorized as a Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Area (GIDA).

“The Color Fun Run-Concert was a testament to the power of community involvement and social responsibility. Participants, sponsors, and partners actively contributed to the betterment of marginalized communities. The event served as a platform for individuals and organizations to make a positive impact, and their collective efforts will undoubtedly leave a lasting mark on the community,” said Perez.

The Peace Run started at the SM City Tuguegarao parking area, and runners were escorted by personnel of the Tuguegarao City Traffic Management Group from the starting point, going to the Cagayan State University Andrews campus, until Caritan Highway, and going back to the parking area of the said mall.

After the Peace Run, various groups, including the Valley Cops Band of the Police Regional Office No. 2, the Do or Die Band of the 17th Infantry Battalion, the Cagayan Police Provincial Office Band, and YFP Baggao chapter dancers, performed during the Peace Concert held at the SM City Tuguegarao parking area.

For his part, YFP President John Carlo Manzano lauded the support of various organizations and national government agencies that supported and participated during the activity, such as the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency, Philippine Information Agency R02, Bravo Company 5CMO Philippine Army, 17 Infantry "Do or Die" Battalion, 95th Infantry Battalion, Marine Battalion Landing Team 10, KKDAT Cagayan, Bureau of Fire Protection Tuguegarao City, Police Regional Office Region 2, Cagayan Provincial Police Office, and the 164th Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps Unit of the University of Cagayan Valley.

“This event was a beautiful chapter in our collective journey towards a more peaceful and educated society. With the support of our partners, we look forward to continuing this journey and making a difference one step at a time,” he added. (MDCT/PIA Cagayan)
