NFA urges farmers to sell palay in local warehouses

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) -- The National Food Authority (NFA) encouraged farmers to sell their palay at the local NFA warehouses in Camp Fullon, San Jose, and in Culasi towns of this province.

NFA Manager for Antique and Iloilo Epifanio G. Cosca said the new price for clean and dry palay is P23 per kilo, while the price range for wet palay is P16-P18 per bag, depending on the moisture content.

To Cosca, this price range is advantageous to the farmers, especially during harvest season when commercial palay traders take advantage of the huge volume of harvest.

For Antique warehouses, NFA had already procured 36,000 bags of rice from Jan. until Oct. 4, 2023, which is 62% away from the NFA's 93,000 buying target for the province.

Cosca further urged the farmers to support the palay procurement NFA as a way of helping the food security program of the government by ensuring that the stocks are sourced locally.

NFA palay stocks are made available during disasters, calamities, and other government programs.

NFA San Jose Warehouse-In-Charge Ma. Analee M. Galilea, in an interview, urged farmers with huge volumes of palay for procurement of NFA to coordinate with the local warehouse in charge so preparations could be made to cater their produce.

NFA Antique also lauded the support of farmer organizations who sell their palay in San Jose and in Culasi buying stations.

The virtual press conference was also attended by Assistant Branch Manager Philip Cesar B. Rumbaoa. (AGP/PSM/PIA Antique with reports from GIP intern)
