PBBM to distribute rice assistance in Roxas City

ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) -- President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. will lead the distribution of rice assistance to 1,000 identified Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries, Oct. 6, in the Capiz Gym of the Villareal Stadium, here.

Each of the beneficiaries will receive 25 kilos of rice.

Based on the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 6 data, the livelihood of the 679 households from among the beneficiaries has also been affected by the toxic red tide contaminating the coastal waters of the province since late August this year.

The DSWD will also release P1.785 million worth of Seed Capital Funds to six organized Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) associations in the province.

These associations, with a total of 122 members, are engaged in catfish and balot production, retailing, community enterprise, and abaca trading.

The President will be ushered by Roxas City mayor Ronnie Dadivas and Capiz Gov. Fredenil H. Castro upon arrival at

the gym for a brief program before the distribution of rice assistance and other basic social services.

The rice distribution came after the lifting of the month-long imposition of the rice price cap as stipulated in the EO No. 39 to remove the controls on the price of regular and well–milled rice in the market.

Roxas City Cereals Association president Edilberto Cambe welcomed the lifting of the price ceiling stressing that the regular and well-milled rice are still at P41 and P45.00 per kilo due to enough local rice supply.

“We may even lower the price in the coming days because of the harvest season,” he stressed in a local radio interview.

The President will also visit Antique and Aklan provinces during the day. (AAL/PIA Capiz)
