DTI-8 targets P35-M sales in ‘Bahandi’ trade fair

TACLOBAN CITY (PIA) – The Department of Trade and Industry Region 8 (DTI-8) is targeting P35 million in sales for the  ‘Bahandi’ Trade Fair on Oct. 11-15, 202 at the Megatrade Hall 2, 5th Level, Mega B, SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City.

A total of 119 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Eastern Visayas will exhibit their products, 35 of which are from Leyte, three from Southern Leyte, 14 from Biliran, 23 from Samar, 16 from Eastern Samar, and 28 from Northern Samar.

The innovative products to include in the trade fair are wearable and homestyle, processed fruits and nuts, and other processed food, 35 percent of which are non-food, and 84 percent are food.

Some of the best sellers that Eastern Visayas has to offer at the trade fair are sweets and native delicacies, native bags, woods, shells and handicraft products, wineries, coconut products, dried fish manufacturing, organic teas, and accessories, to name a few.

DTI-8 provided marketing assistance, like product training and development, to refine MSME’s product preparation and presentation following the market standards.

The provincial governments and DTI-8 also provided transportation assistance going to Manila, accommodation, and hired trucks to load the products of the MSMEs.

DTI-8 tagged their trade fair in Manila as ‘Bahandi,’ a local term for treasures and wealth, where tradition meets innovation. It started in 1987 and continued in 2023 after a three-year hiatus from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The trade fair will also highlight the certification of the ‘BAHANDI Eastern Visayas Trade Fair’ trademark registration granted by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines.

In a statement, DTI-8 Regional Director Celerina T. Bato encouraged the Eastern Visayas people with friends and relatives living in Manila to drop by, visit their booths, and buy the local products at the Bahandi Trade Fair. (LDL/AAC/PIA Leyte)
