Hybrid solar-powered mini ice plant solves lack of ice supply in Cagayancillo

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan (PIA) -- The Local Government Unit of Cagayancillo with the help of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) established a hybrid solar-power mini ice plant in Sitio Cawili, Brgy. Magsaysay. According to Cagayancillo Mayor Engr. Sergio Tapalla, this project is a solution to the lack of ice supply in the municipality.

This project will also help fishermen maintain the freshness of their caught fish until it reaches to the public market and will increase their monthly income by 30-50%.

Mayor Tapalla expects that this project will lead to the opening of new businesses and will also provide employment to the residents of his municipality.

The hybrid solar-powered mini ice plant can produce 1.2 tons of block ice every day, Mayor Tapalla added.

The Municipality of Cagayancillo is a 6th-class municipality of Palawan. It has a total land area of 2,639 hectares and composed of 31 islands and islets and is politically subdivided into 12 barangays.

It is approximately 178 nautical miles (330 km) east of Puerto Princesa City and with a total population of 6,884 people according to the 2020 Census of Population of the Philippine Statistic Authority (PSA).

Cagayancillo is also the home of the famous Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park and the World Heritage Site of UNESCO. (OCJ/PIA Mimaropa - Palawan)
