HAGONOY, Davao del Sur (PIA) -- More investments and job opportunities will come to Hagonoy, Davao del Sur, as San Miguel Foods Inc. (SMFI) inaugurated on October 12 its world-class controlled-climate Magnolia poultry farm in the town.
Hagonoy Mayor Jesus Dureza, Jr. revealed that the P10.2 billion poultry mega farm project will need around 7,500 employees for its full operation to produce 80 million chickens annually.
“I have requested 80 percent of the workforce (to come from Hagonoy),” Dureza disclosed.

The multi-billion peso project is located ona nearly 1,000-hectare lot in Barangay Hagonoy Crossing, Hagonoy town.
Dureza also said that they applied for the whole area to be an economic zone under the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA).One-third of the area will be utilized as an agro-industrial zone, in which the mega farm is now being established.
“Another one-third, we have applied it for a manufacturing zone para ang mga factories pwede nang pumasok dito,” he said.
The mayor also brought out that other subsidiaries and affiliates of San Miguel Corporation (SMC) might also situate their factories in the area.

According to Dureza, the final portion is being applied for the Information Technology (IT) Park Zone, aimed at attracting business process outsourcing (BPO) companies, call centers, and financial institutions.
“Pag nag-fully operational na itong economic zone, we need 100,000 workers here,” he added.
