Iloilo City sets stage for OGPinas Visayas Leg drive

ILOILO CITY (PIA) -- The Philippine Open Government Partnership activity, dubbed “OG Pinas,” is set to be staged tomorrow, Oct. 18, here at the District 21 Hotel, in line with Executive Order No. 31, Series of 2023.

Department of Budget and Management (DBM)-led, together with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), this international multi-stakeholder initiative aims to secure concrete commitments from the government to improve transparency, accountability, and public participation in policymaking.

PH-OGP Chairperson and DBM Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman will grace the event as keynote speaker, alongside the DILG Assistant Secretary Francisco Cruz.

DBM Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman, DILG Undersecretary Marlo L. Iringan, PIA Director-General Jose Torres Jr., and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority General Manager Procopio G. Lipana signify their support by signing the Pledge to Open Governance during the launching of the OGPinas campaign at the SM North Skydome, Quezon City, Oct. 11.

This global campaign is composed of 76 national governments, 106 local jurisdictions, and thousands of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), providing citizens an avenue to access information, encourage civic participation, and strengthen public accountability.

According to the DBM briefer, this platform particularly empowers citizens to exercise their rights, hold the government accountable, and allow the public to participate in decision-making, empowering citizens to participate freely in governance.

This further allows citizens to demand that government actors justify their actions, act upon criticisms, and accept responsibility.

A series of lectures are also expected to be presented before the participants who are Open Government champions from the Visayas cluster across different sectors.

Government services booths will also be available until 3:00 p.m. with exhibitors coming from the Development Bank of the Philippines, Land Bank of the Philippines, Social Security System, Pag-IBIG Fund, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, Securities and Exchange Commission, and Philippine Statistics Authority.

After the Visayas Leg, other clusters such as Mindanao Leg A will be held in Cagayan de Oro City that will be hosted by Region 10 on Nov. 15, and Mindanao Leg B in Davao City to be spearheaded by Region 12 on Nov. 24.

To note, there were more than a hundred participants from the National Capital Region, Region IV-A, Region IV-B, and Region V who joined the first leg of the milestone campaign held at SM North Skydome in Quezon City on Oct. 11. (AAL/AGP/PIA 6)
