DOLE Sibugay prepares government interns for success

IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay, Oct. 18 (PIA) - The Department of Labor and Employment Zamboanga Sibugay Field Office (DOLE ZSFO) took a crucial step in shaping the future of government service within the province.

To ensure a smooth transition and optimal performance of eight young professionals under the Government Internship Program (GIP), DOLE ZSFO recently organized a signing agreement and orientation, emphasizing the pivotal role these interns play in contributing to improve public service.

Spanning three months of engagement, this program places a strong emphasis on instilling professionalism, work ethics, and occupational safety and health (OSH) values. The interactive orientation allowed the interns to engage in meaningful discussions, seek clarifications, and gain a deeper understanding of government operations.

DOLE ZSFO Chief Elamsalih Ungad reiterated the importance of this initiative, saying, "We want to make sure that you are well prepared for your roles in various government agencies and are equipped with the right skills, knowledge, and attitude."

Senior Officer Michael Vincent Macrohon, overseeing the program at ZSFO, highlighted the commitment to providing a comprehensive orientation program and equipping the interns with the knowledge and skills necessary for a successful internship.

In addition to gaining valuable experience and skills, interns will receive compensation equivalent to the region's minimum wage during the program. Moreover, DOLE has guaranteed GSIS insurance coverage for interns in case of work-related emergencies.

Upon completing their contract, the interns will be awarded a certificate of completion, which they can leverage as an advantage in their future endeavors.

The interns expressed their gratitude, acknowledging the significance of the guidance provided during the orientation. They believe that such advice will not only enhance their professional capabilities but also contribute to their long-term success as public servants.

Alana Angela M. Ortega, one of the interns, shared her aspirations, stating, "As a new intern for the program, I anticipate that this will instill in me a strong desire to provide the public with just and sincere service. May this program refine my skills and abilities so that I can be of service to the general public."

The Government Internship Program is a flagship program of DOLE designed to provide young individuals with practical experience in government-run initiatives at the local and national levels.

This program not only offers exposure to the real world but also imparts hands-on experience in the government sector, preparing participants for their intended careers.

DOLE ZSFO's successful orientation for young professionals represents a significant step in developing a capable workforce for the government agencies of Zamboanga Sibugay. The emphasis on work ethics, OSH, and professionalism underscores the commitment to ensuring that these emerging professionals are well-prepared for their roles, which will ultimately contribute to the province’s growth and the welfare of its citizens.
