BSP sustains Piso Caravan in Ilocos Norte

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte (PIA) – Ilokanos can still exchange their mutilated or unfit coins and banknotes for brand-new banknotes through the Piso Caravan being conducted by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP)-Batac City Branch every Saturday.

For the month of October, the BSP Piso Caravan starts at 10:00 a.m. at the Lingkod Pinoy Center of the Robinsons Place Ilocos in San Nicolas town.

In November, the caravan will be open at the Hypermarket and in December at Puregold, both in Laoag City, scheduled also every Saturday.

This BSP currency exchange program aims to remove unfit coins and banknotes from circulation.

BSP describes unfit banknotes as “soiled, limp, stained, or have faded print, obvious writings, or markings,” while unfit coins are those with corrosion or markings.

Lawyer Cristamarie Tabillas-Abiva, branch head of the BSP-Batac City Branch, clarified that the old and invalid coins and banknotes will not be considered for exchange in the caravan.

“This aims to flush out all idle coins and put them back in circulation and also to promote the clean note policy of the Bangko Sentral, which means gusto natin na nakikita natin sa ating ekonomiya at ‘yong mga ginagamit ng ating mga sellers and buyers ang clean and genuine notes para wala tayong counterfeit at unfit notes,” she said.

This caravan is in partnership with the Bankers Association of Laoag City and Ilocos Norte (BALCIN).

Abiva said this is also an opportunity for the BSP to conduct information dissemination as it distributes pamphlets highlighting its programs and services, especially on safe online banking. (JCR/AMB/EJFG, PIA Ilocos Norte)
