13 agencies, 4 LGUs join NSM statistical exhibit, infographics-making contest

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)--A total of 13 national line agencies and four local government units (LGUs) participated in the Inter-Agency Statistical Exhibit and Infographics Making Competition organized by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-10 in line with the 34th National Statistics Month celebration.

The Inter-Agency Statistical Exhibit contest showcases the diverse statistical reports or data that regional line agencies use in their intervention programs. It also features the different statistical development activities of the agencies that promote the use and value of statistics in carrying out their mandates.

The Infographics Making Contest, on the other hand, highlighted the statistical reports or data being used by the agency/LGU in evidence-based decision-making presented in eye-catching and visually appealing infographics.

Four agencies vie for the best statistical exhibit, namely, the Department of Health (DOH)-10, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-10, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)-10, and Environmental Management Bureau (EMB)-10.

Four LGUs and 12 line agencies meanwhile partake in the Infographics Making contest. These are LGU Quezon (Bukidnon), LGU Cagayan de Oro City, LGU El Salvador City, LGU Gingoog City, DOLE-10, TESDA-10, EMB-10, Department of Tourism-10, National Food Authority (NFA)-Lanao del Norte, NFA Misamis Oriental, Mines and Geosciences Bureau-10, Philippine Ports Authority-10, Department of Trade and Industry-10, Department of Agriculture-10, Commission on Higher Education-10, and Department of Education-10.

A staff from the Department of Health-10 explains the content and highlights of the Department's Statistical Exhibit during the judging of entries for the Inter-Agency Statistical Exhibit and Infographics Making competition, October 23.

In her opening message, PSA-10 OIC Director Janith Aves said the 34th NSM Inter-Agency Statistical Exhibit is a celebration of the men and women who transform numbers into knowledge and the tools that make it all possible.

The exhibit, she said, also spotlights the beauty of data visualization and the significance of statistical analysis in the daily lives of the public.

Aves also stated that statistics are the silent storytellers of the society that shape decisions and policies.

As such, she called on the public to embrace the opportunities to use the data presented in the statistical exhibit to create a better country, drive innovation, and address the challenges of times.

The Regional Development Council (RDC)-X earlier approved RDC-X Resolution 118, series of 2023, enjoining members of the RDC, LGUs, academe, and the private sector to support the 34th NSM to help in enhancing awareness and appreciation of the value and importance of statistics to the different sectors of society.

This year, the NSM is anchored on the theme “Accelerating Progress: Promoting Data and Statistics for Healthy Philippines" to emphasize the importance of data and statistics in enhancing health outcomes and accelerating the nation's socioeconomic development using quality health and health-related statistics.

The winners of the contests will be awarded on October 27, 2023 during the closing program of the celebration. (APB/PIA-10)
