LGU-Mangaldan holds symposium on rectifying birth certificate inaccuracies

DAGUPAN CITY (PIA) – As part of the celebration of the 34th National Statistics Month, the local government unit (LGU) of Mangaldan, in cooperation with the Municipal Civil Registrar Office (MCRO) and David National High School (DNHS), conducted a symposium on Rectifying Inaccuracies in Birth Certificates: Resolving Marital Status Discrepancies.

The activity, aimed at providing DNHS with the knowledge required to register birth certificates, was held on Friday, October 20 at the David Barangay Court in Mangaldan, Pangasinan.

Aida Cera, municipal civil registrar officer, led the discussion on birth registration and issuance of the certificate in the local government.

She stressed the importance of registration accuracy such as an individual’s place of registration must be the same as his or her place of birth.

Any discrepancy or error may result in transaction delays or denials.

A petition can be filed with the local civil registrar where the birth certificate was registered to fix the error.

This includes completing the required forms and presenting supporting documents.

“The Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) Birth Registration Assistance Program (PBRAP) application is still open and available for free. Mangaldan residents who still need to obtain their birth certificates and wish to apply can visit the MCRO on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to learn more about said service,” Cera said.

Meanwhile, Mangaldan Councilor Fernando Juan Cabrera underscored the importance of treating documents with the utmost sensitivity.

He said that correct information on documents is crucial to various transactions such as application for examination, application for passport identification (ID), and enrolment process, among others.

Melvin Callanta, officer-in-charge (OIC) assistant principal of DNHS, expressed his gratitude to the resource speakers of the symposium for the insights they shared with their students.

“Malaking tulong itong ginawa nila lalo na sa aming mga estudyante na nasa baranggay ang school, kasi mahirap din talaga ang access namin sa ganitong bagay, kaya malaking tulong ito kasi mas naliwanagan kami. Lalong-lalo na sa mga may problema na kailangan i-process ang papers nila sa PSA, malaking tulong ito,” said Regiie Yden, Grade 12 Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM) strand of DNHS.
