NFA Aklan buys palay at higher prices, offers other buying modes

KALIBO, Aklan (PIA) --  The National Food Authority (NFA) here has started buying palay from Aklan farmers at higher prices for P23.00 for dry and clean palay, and P18.00 for wet palay.

NFA Capiz-Aklan Acting Assistant Branch Head Andy Ostan revealed that a kilo of dry and clean palay’s purchasing price is P19.00 plus a buffer stock incentive of P4.00 for a total of P23.00, while wet palay is at P16.00 plus a buffer stock incentive of P2.00, or a total of P18.00.

The buffer stock, according to the NFA, may vary every week based on the ex-farmgate price.

To further assist farmers, the NFA also conducts mobile procurement in Aklan towns with bulk harvests, but farmers have to notify the agency first for scheduling purposes.

In Aklan, farmers who wish to sell their palay to the NFA may deliver at its warehouse in Linabuan Sur, Banga, Aklan.

They only need to secure their certification from the Department of Agriculture-Municipal Agriculture Office  (DA-MAO) of the farm area registered on DA's

Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA) List indicating their hectarage for palay to have an individual passbook.

On the other hand, cooperatives and associations with no master’s passbook only need to submit certificates from the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) or Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

The NFA also accepts walk-in farmers with no passbooks in their first delivery and can sell up to 200 bags in a single transaction.

A passbook is already required for their succeeding deliveries. (AGP/VGV/PIA Aklan)
