40 Tarlac market supervisors, masters attend weighing scale calibration seminar

TARLAC CITY (PIA) -- A total of 40 market supervisors/masters and assistant market masters participated in the weighing scale calibration seminar organized by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Tarlac.

This is in line with the celebration of the 2023 Consumer Welfare Month (CWM).

DTI OIC-Provincial Director Florencia Balilo explained that the participants from different municipalities are responsible for calibrating weighing scales in public markets to ensure the protection of consumers.

“The market supervisors and market masters play an important role in safeguarding the interests of our consumers. One of which is ensuring that the weighing scales in public markets are accurate,” she said.

During the seminar, attendees were oriented on the legal basis of Republic Act 7394 or the Consumer Act of the Philippines, the proper handling of weighing scales, and verification of weighing scales and balances.

Balilo emphasized that the market supervisors/masters and assistant market masters are expected to echo and apply their learnings in the regular conduct of Operation Timbangan in their respective areas of responsibility.
