QUEZON CITY, (PIA) – The local government of Navotas on Monday, October 23, signed a 30-year Deed of Usufruct with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in a bid to strengthen the disaster risk response mechanism of the city.

The agreement will enable the BFP to make use of the 444-square meter lot of the local government in Barangay Navotas East for the construction of the Navotas Central Fire Station.

“Preparation for this usufruct took us five years. Because of limited spaces in our city, we had to expropriate parcels of land for our new central fire station," Navotas City Mayor John Rey Tiangco said.

"Building an additional station would increase our efficiency in responding to emergencies, so we can prevent incidents that could claim lives and property,” he added.

At present, the city government has fire stations in Barangay Sipac Almacen, Tangos North, and Tanza 1.

The additional fire station will improve the capacity of the local government to respond to fire incidents and other emergency situations that pose a threat to public safety.

“Hangad natin na sa pamamagitan ng mga ito, mapapanatili ang kaligtasan ng mga Navoteño sa sunog at iba pang sakuna (We hope that through these, we can maintain the safety of Navoteño against fire and other disaster),” said Tiangco.

Aside from the local chief executive, the signatories of the deed include BFP-National Capital Region Director Fire Chief Superintendent Nahum Tarroza, City Fire Marshal Fire Superintendent Jude de los Reyes, and City General Services Officer Jayne Rillon.
