Cagayan Museum to bring exhibits to communities

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA) — In celebration of Museums and Galleries Month, the Cagayan Museum and Historical Research Center (CMHRC) will unveil its 'Museum on Wheels' on October 31.

The project’s objective is to bring the museum’s exhibits to far-flung areas, as not all Cagayanos have the means to travel to the provincial capital.

The Museum on Wheels will visit the towns of Gonzaga and Claveria as its initial destinations.

According to museum researcher and tour guide, Joshua Palolan, the exhibits will include replicas of prehistoric artifacts such as stone tools used by early humans and fossils of extinct animals like native elephants and rhinoceroses.

Prehistoric artifacts and fossils are but a few of the museum’s diverse collections, which also include protohistoric and Spanish-period materials, as well as historical reconstructions and archival documents.

Museum Director Niño Kevin Baclig has repeatedly underscored the role of the museum as ground zero of Cagayan’s cultural affairs.

According to Baclig, it is through the museum’s activities that provincial identity and pride are hoped to be strengthened by instilling knowledge and appreciation of Cagayan’s prehistoric, historic, and cultural heritage among the public.

Earlier this month, the Museum conducted a series of webinars that included a variety of research topics, such as local astronomy, pre-colonial history, and colonial history.

This is in line with the same principle of disseminating knowledge to a wider audience, particularly relevant research on Cagayan culture and history.

Baclig explained that the museum continuously works with national and international experts and scholars to improve its facilities in order to provide the public with the high-quality learning experience they deserve. (JKC - PIA REGION II)
