KAYA CON 2023 boosts MSMEs in La Union

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA)— Recognizing the vital contributions of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the local economic growth, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), in partnership with the Department of Trade Industry (DTI)-La Union, held the two-day “KAYA CON: 2023 La Union MSME Summit.”


The summit, which is now in its second year, was held at the La Union Convention Center in Sevilla  San Fernando City, La Union recently.


The attendees of the 2023 KAYA CON are MSME owners and business and marketing students around La Union. 


The KAYA CON provided the attendees with lectures, sharing of experiences, and training on how to better their business, especially in marketing and adapting to advancement and digitalization.


Speakers and sharers invited to the event are renowned in the line of business and marketing from inside and outside the region, including Ronald Rommel Viloria on Branding Matters, Jan Erich Calderon on Hybrid Entrepreneurship in Social Media Generation: Purpose-Driven for Success, and Ruben Lanot on Supply Value Chain Management.


Razel Morada and Anderson Tacla also shared how to utilize their respective represented mobile wallet brands as a response to digitalization, on the first day. 


For the second day, DTI-Region 1’s Youth Entrepreneur Program was also shared by Angelica Quiban, and the Department of Agriculture (DA) Young Agri-preneurship Program was shared by Rhoda Galvan, imparting to the participants’ notable things for their business and how their embodied government agencies can help them.


Also shared among others are personal experiences from Veberly Uyaan on Starting a Business: The VEl Sierra Integrated Farm Journey, and John Paul Naoe on The Way Up to Success: Jaypee’s Bakeshop and Cafe.

Board member and chair of the committee in trade, commerce, and industry, Henry Balbin highlighted the importance of these MSMEs thus considering them as change makers for their ability to drive economic growth.


“The world is changing, and it's time to adapt. KAYA CON is your platform for digital transformation, sustainability, and global outreach,” Balbin added.


Also highlighted in the event was the presentation of the 10 MSMEs from different LGUs in the province that participated in the Manila Fame 2023 on October 19 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.


These are Kultur Siak Enterprise (Bacnotan), Northway Arts and Crafts (San Juan), RP Lucina Weaving (Bangar), EDC Paper Haus (Bauang), Bauang Crochet Association (Bauang), ARCS Antiques and Woodcrafts (Pugo), FE’s Handicrafts (Balaoan), Bancagan Bamboo Handicrafts (Naguilian), HCR Handicrafts (Aringay), and Heisabelle Wood Works (Suidipen).


Manila Fame is a trade show that showcases fashion, home, and lifestyle creative products.


Furthermore, Governor Raphaelle Veronica Ortega-David reminded the participants to believe in their potential for business.
