PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan (PIA) -- The city government of Puerto Princesa gained six awards in the annual Cities and Municipalities Index (CMCI) of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
This year’s CMCI was joined by 1,000 local government units in the country. Out of 33 participating highly urbanized cities (HUCs), Puerto Princesa was awarded Rank 16 as Most Competitive in Economic Dynamism Pillar, Rank 17 as Most Competitive Efficiency Pillar, Rank 6 as Most Competitive Infrastructure Pillar, and Rank 14 as Most Competitive in Resiliency Pillar.
Overall, Puerto Princesa ranked 15th in Overall Most Competitive and 5th in Most Improved in Rank.
The annual ranking of Philippine cities and municipalities was developed by the National Competitiveness Council through the Regional Competitiveness Committees (RCCs) with the assistance of the United States Agency for International Development.
In a letter, DTI Regional Director Rodolfo J. Mariposque expressed his support for the city government to maintain good performance and exceed its rank next year. Its participation in the annual CMCI promotes national competitiveness through the strategic promotion of regional competitiveness.
The department explained that the ranking given by CMCI was intended to recognize the efforts made by the local government unit (LGU) to serve its constituents in terms of the four pillars categorized as economic dynamism, government efficiency, infrastructure, and resiliency.
The ranking has been given since 2012, and Puerto Princesa started to be part of the CMCI in 2015. It was recognized as the Most Improved Highly Urbanized City in 2020. (RG/PIA Mimaropa - Palawan)
