2023 Critical Information Infrastructure Protection Summit boosts cybersecurity collaboration

CALOOCAN CITY, (PIA) --The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) achieved a significant milestone by hosting the 2023 Philippine Critical Information Infrastructure Protection (CIIP) Summit at the prestigious Manila Grand Opera Hotel on October 13, 2023.

The event garnered substantial attention, attracting 100 participants from a wide array of public and private sector agencies and organizations.

The summit, strategically aligned with DICT Cybersecurity Month 2023, emerged as a resounding success, underscoring the urgent need to bolster cybersecurity measures across vital sectors.

It emphasized the critical importance of seamless collaboration between the public and private sectors, highlighting the imperative to fortify the nation’s Critical Information Infrastructures (CIIs).

The event not only showcased the dedication of the attendees but also served as a catalyst for fostering a more secure digital landscape in the Philippines.

The CIIP Summit convened a distinguished assembly of thought leaders, policymakers, and experts hailing from both governmental and private spheres.

At its core, the summit was dedicated to comprehensively analyzing the prevailing threat landscape.

It served as a platform for crafting innovative strategies, leveraging cutting-edge technologies, and formulating robust policies.

These initiatives were specifically designed to combat and mitigate cyber threats menacing the 52 critical sectors vital to the resilience of the Philippines.

A pivotal moment during the event occurred with the unveiling of the draft National Cybersecurity Plan 2023-2028 by the DICT Cybersecurity Bureau (CSB).

This visionary plan provides a deep dive into the cybersecurity threat landscape in the Philippines, arming stakeholders with essential knowledge.

It empowers them to fortify the resilience of Critical Information Infrastructures (CIIs) and offers a gateway to government support in the event of cybersecurity incidents.

The plan stands as a testament to the nation’s commitment to staying ahead in the ever-evolving realm of cybersecurity.

Representatives from diverse critical sectors took the stage to present their sector-specific cybersecurity roadmaps, shedding light on the challenges faced and the notable achievements made in fortifying cyber resilience:

Mr. Guillbert A. Serrano of the National Water Resource Board presented updates, plans, and programs for the Water Sector CERT.

Mr. Joel R. Arias of the Department of Health discussed Cybersecurity Updates for the Health Sector, DOH Initiatives, and the Cybersecurity Framework.

Ms. S. Magnolia Olvido, from the Department of Energy, shared insights on the Energy Resilience Policy, Roadmap, Framework, and Collaborative Cybersecurity Awareness Activities with DICT.

Ms. Angelica Sarmiento, from the Department of Finance, delved into the Evolving Threat Landscape in the Financial Sector, Hierarchy of CERT, and DOF-CERT-PH Strategic Goals, Policies, and Programs.

Ms. Verna A. Bonifacio of the Office for Transportation Security discussed their Mandate, Global & Domestic Security Situations in Transportation CII, and presented Initiatives & Future Plans.

Mr. Dexter S. Macatangay of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas shared insights on the BSP Approach to Strengthening the Cyber Resilience of the Financial Services Industry.

The CIIP Summit provided a strategic platform for government agencies, the private sector, and other stakeholders to collaborate in securing the digital landscape for the benefit of all Filipinos.
