IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay (PIA) – Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across  the province benefited from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-IX  Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP), with the approval of 12 technology projects in 2023 totaling to P20.5 million covering various sectors.

Among the sectors, agriculture leads, securing approval for six SETUP projects valued at P13.4 million total project cost.

Meanwhile, the food processing sector through the Buug Multi-Purpose Cooperative and Canoy Catering Services is pioneering the integration of modern technology in their operations. These upgrades aim to meet customer demands, enhance production facilities, and increase productivity, generating income and job opportunities in the area. The cost for the two projects in this sector is roughly P1.1 million .

The metals and engineering sector is making strides, with Cabandera Welding Shop in Payao municipality and Jhoncris Enterprises in Ipil town focusing on improving machine servicing and metal crafting facilities. A funding assistance of P4.4 million has been provided for these projects.

The furniture sector and the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector are not left behind. Siano Mini Sawmill/Lumber and Furniture Shop, along with Prohtech Trading and Computer Solutions, benefit from SETUP's 36-month rent-to-own scheme helping them acquire new technologies and enhance overall productivity. Combined total project cost of these projects is P1.6 million.

The proactive efforts of DOST-IX, through PSTO-ZSP, contribute significantly to economic advancement and technological growth in various industries in Zamboanga Sibugay.
