IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay (PIA) - The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Region 9 and (Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi) BASULTA has turned over a Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) to the 102nd Infantry Brigade. The occasion also marked the inauguration of the DICT Communication Tower on the 102nd Infantry Brigade premises.

Brigadier General Elmer B. Suderio, Commander of the 102nd Infantry Brigade, and Asst. Secretary Maria Teresa M. Camba of DICT jointly signed the document. The project intends to strengthen the province's capacity for disaster risk reduction and management.

Camba pointed out the importance of the equipment in reinforcing disaster preparedness. “It will really help in boosting our communication signal in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay and nearby provinces especially in times of disaster,” Camba said.

Additionally, a partnership agreement was formalized during the event, solidifying the collaboration between Regional Emergency Assistance Communication Team (REACT)-12A, under the leadership of Henry Bicoy, national president of REACT Philippines, and the 102nd Infantry Brigade.

Suderio stressed the value of working with civilian agencies during emergencies. "We already have a military network and it is equally important to have a civilian network because we have to collaborate with civilian agencies in times of disaster," BGen Suderio said.

These initiatives foster a seamless and coordinated response during disaster situations by strengthening communication networks and makes Zamboanga Sibugay and nearby areas equipped to mitigate risks and protect communities.

The partnership underscores a commitment to fortify communication capabilities, ensuring timely and effective communication in times of need for the safety of the community. This milestone marks a crucial step forward in enhancing the province’s infrastructure dedicated to disaster risk reduction and management. (RVC/EDT/RBI/PIA9-Zamboanga Sibugay)
