ILOILO CITY -- The most child-friendly barangays were hailed in the province of Guimaras during the Child-Friendly Local Governance (CFLG) Awarding Ceremony held last December 27, 2023.

Barangay Agsanayan of Buenavista town was recognized as the Most Child-Friendly Barangay and received P150,000.00 along with a plaque.

This barangay was also awarded for its exemplary planning and policy formulation, resource allocation, and documentation.

Meanwhile, Barangay Tanag in the same town was declared as the runner-up and took home P100,000.00.

According to the Guimaras Public Information Office, 34 barangays were evaluated by the Provincial Inter-Agency Monitoring Task Force (PIMTF) during the conduct of the CFLG Evaluation last November 2023.

Of these barangays, 13 are from Sibunag town comprising Alegria, Ayangan, Bubog, Concordia, Dasal, Maabay, Millan, Sabang, San Isidro, Sebaste, Ravina, Oracon, and Tanglad.

The ten barangays from Buenavista town that underwent the evaluation process were Agsanayan, Avila, Daragan, Mabini, Navalas, Nazaret, San Isidro, San Nicolas, San Roque, and Tanag.

Barangays Balcon Maravilla, Buluangan, and Espinosa in Jordan; La Paz, Poblacion, San Roque, and Tando in Nueva Valencia; Cabano, San Enrique, Sebario, and Suclaran in the Municipality of San Lorenzo were likewise assessed.

The non-winning barangays have received a plaque and P5,000.00 respectively.

Barangay Ayangan in Sibunag got the Best in Health and Nutrition and Best Practice in Innovation/Implementation Special Awards.

On the other hand, Barangay Tanag's special awards include Best in Education, Best in Institution Building, and Best in Child Participation.

These barangays were assessed in six areas such as planning and policy formulation, resource allocation, service delivery, institution building, child participation, and community participation.

Now in its 20th year of recognizing the efforts of the municipalities and barangays, Governor JC Rahman Nava said that Guimaras province continues to make strides in the field of child-friendly movement.

Nava cited that these efforts made by the barangays for the realization of a Child-Friendly Guimaras is laudable.

"We made big strides as far as child friendly movement is concerned not only locally but as well as on the national level. Indi langu-langu ang pagpaninguha sang mga barangay kag kabanwahanan para ma-achieve ang status subong sa Guimaras (The effort of the barangays and municipalities is not a joke especially in achieving the current status of Guiamaras )," Gov. Nava said. (AAL/LMLE/PIA Iloilo/Guimaras PIO)
