DA awards P10-M swine raising facility project to Kalinga coop

CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga(PIA) -- To help ensure sufficiency of pork, and provide better income for farmers in the province of Kalinga, a swine raising facility funded by the Department of Agriculture will soon rise at Barangay Nambaran in Tabuk City.

The  Department of Agriculture through its Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion (INSPIRE) program, will provide a P10-million to fund the construction of the facility which will be managed by the Alliance of Tribes for Oneness in Development Credit Cooperative (ATODCC). The project is expected to be completed within 123 working days.

DA-CAR Regional Director Jennilyn Dawayan led the project’s groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, January 8.

The modular designed swine facility will be located in a 4,176 square-meter lot. It will have 16 cages that can accommodate 300 heads of hybrid swine.

Most members of the ATODCC, an accredited civil society organization, are engaged in the livestock industry, particularly swine production.

Sison Paut, a member of the cooperative’s board of directors, donated the land where the facility will be constructed. He said the project is a big boost to the livelihood of their members.

He assured that whatever income generated from the facility’s operation will not be divided among the members, but will accrue to the cooperative to sustain the project.

Dawayan said the INSPIRE project is part of the commitment of the government to provide assistance to farmers and fishers to ensure improved production and income. (LL-PIA Kalinga)
