Policemen reminded to be mindful of their impact in communities they serve

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet (PIA) -- A ranking officer of the Philippine National Police is calling on his fellow policemen to  be mindful of the impact of their actions on the lives of the people they serve. Policemen should show their sincerity in carrying out their mission to serve and protect the people.

"Remember at all times, we are servants of the public and again. Hindi tayo ang panginoon sa mga lansangan, sa mga kalsada, or sa mga bara-barangay. Hindi natin kailangan ang mga miyembro na mga abusadong pulis na nagsisiga-sigaan at tini-terrorize ang ating mga kababayan, [We are not the lords of the streets or in the barangays. We do not need abusive policemen who terrorize our fellowmen)," said Lt. Gen. Rhodel Sermonia, deputy chief for administration of the PNP.

Sermonia recently visited the Police Regional Office in the Cordillera Administrative Region where  he also reiterated the importance of upholding integrity and preserving public trust to ensure a strong bond between policemen and the community they serve.

PNP Deputy Chief for Administration, PLtGen. Rhodel Sermonia emphasizes the importance of the Transparency and Integrity Program during his visit at the Police Regional Office Cordillera on January 5, 2024.

"Uphold the ethics or the highest standard of ethics, professionalism, and compassion for human rights. Huwag nating gamitin ang ating awtoridad, ang ating badge, ang ating uniporme, or ang ating baril para sa sariling kapakanan o sa pang-aabuso sa kapwa at sa ating tungkulin. Ipakita natin na tayo ang tunay na sandalan ng mamamayan at dapat maaasahan tayo sa lahat ng oras, [Do not misuse our authority, our badge, our uniform or our gun to serve our self interests or to abuse our fellowmen. Let us show our people that they can count on us at all hours), " Sermonia added.

Sermonia, who was here to make a farewell call on his fellow policemen as he is set to retire from the police service on Jan. 26,  said "the Philippine National Police hopes to arrest the public’s eroding trust and confidence in the police service by rolling out a transparency and integrity program.

He said the Transparency and Integrity Program (TIP) aims to transform policemen into instruments of good governance.

Launched in August 2023, the Transparency and Integrity Program (TIP) is a nationwide  engagement of police commanders down to provincial and station units,  based on the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to uphold moral ascendancy, integrity, transparency, and accountability of every police personnel.

Sermonia said the program is rooted in the three major policies of the PNP, namely, the internal cleansing program, the police operational procedures, and the doctrine of command responsibility.

The TIP campaign caravan has enabled the PNP to address public trust issues and foster stronger collaboration with civil society, promoting a whole of nation approach for the massive and intense reiteration of all PNP guidelines, Sermonia said.(DEG-PIA CAR)
