CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)-- The Department of Agriculture recently gave over 300 heads of chicken, layer feeds, and veterinary supplies to a women's cooperative in Binuangan town in Misamis Oriental.
The aid under the Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) will support the poultry raising and egg production venture of the Mosangot Women’s Producer Cooperative (MOWOPCO).
MOWOPCO's Egg Production Project involves 25 women members of the cooperative. They also received seven chicken cages and 100 bags of chicken layer feeds.
"MOWOPCO is among the seven identified beneficiary Farmers’ Associations/Cooperatives (FCAs) in Misamis Oriental for the DA-SAAD Phase 2 implementation from 2023 to 2028," Regional Executive Director Carlene C. Collado said as he turned over the P697,800 in assistance.
The cooperative manages a 7-hectare land dedicated to livestock production.
As part of their commitment, the cooperative has allocated approximately 130 square meters of production area, where they constructed a poultry house for the chicken layers. With this support, MOWOPCO is poised to begin supplying eggs to wholesalers and retailers in the local market of Binuangan this month, expecting an initial monthly sales of P49,950.
"The cooperative is set to receive other assistance, such as 100 egg trays and five rolls of chicken nets, in the first quarter of 2024 as a package for the DA-SAAD egg production project," Collado added.
In addition to enhancing the financial capabilities of female farmers, this program helps the local agriculture industry grow sustainably and builds community resilience and empowerment. (RTP/PIA-10)
