BAGUIO CITY(PIA) --The Office of Civil Defense - Cordillera Administrative Region (OCD-CAR), in coordination with League of Municipalities in the Philippines (LMP) will conduct the 2024 DRRM Forum and Expo on March 7 to 9, 2024 at Gov. Andres B. Bernos Memorial Gym in Bangued, Abra.
The activity aims to establish closer collaborations and identify concrete areas of convergence on Climate Change Adaptation, Mitigation and Disaster Risk Reduction Management(CCAM-DRRM) among government and non-government organizations, and to discuss latest policies, strategies, directions, and/or innovations in the region in order to have a harmonized course of actions and decision.
It also aims to showcase the latest DRRM tools and equipment, studies, and good local government practices that can be replicated or adopted by other LGUs.
OCD Regional Director Albert Mogol said they have been engaging their stakeholders and other institutions to promote and advocate DRRM in various sectors or communities.
Recently, OCD linked up with LMP national president and La Paz, Abra Mayor Joseph Sto. Nino “JB” B. Bernos, which resulted to the agreement to conduct a regional DRRM activity.
The OCD CAR formed a technical working group to work on this project. Among the identified topics include situation of the country and CAR relative to CCAM- DRRM; recent projects such as risk resiliency programs by the Department of Science and Welfare and Development; Local Government Support Fund by the Dept. of the Interior and Local Government; technological enhancement by the Dept. of Science and Technology, and the status of proper fund utilization of local DRRM fund.(JDP/MAWC/PIA-CAR)
