PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan (PIA) -- The Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) has resumed the distribution of compensation to persons deprived of liberty (PDL) who have workserved in agricultural-industrial projects for the past seven years.
Iwahig warden Supt. Gary Garcia said the ongoing release of compensations helps to recognize the significant role of PDLs in the development of agricultural projects, which is one of the focuses of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) for IPPF.
The resumption was based on the approved Resolution No. 001 s. 2023 of the IPPF Committee on PDL Compensation, which grants compensation to qualified PDL working in agricultural-industrial projects of IPPD starting November 2023.
“The compensation received by each PDL will not only provide income to support their daily needs while in prison but will also allow them to save money in preparation for their eventual release," the bureau stated.

Garcia supervised the distribution of compensation, which started in December 2023.
One of the main agriculture-related projects in IPPF is the Reformation Initiative for Sustainable Environment for Food Security (RISE) with the Department of Agriculture (DA), which aims to help reform PDLs and ensure food security.
The BuCor Director General also said in his visits in 2023 that the transferred PDLs from National Bilibid Prison (NBP) to IPPF will also assist as additional manpower in attaining developments in the agricultural projects of IPPF. (RG/PIA Mimaropa - Palawan)
