Philippine track team member crowned Miss Iloilo 2024

ILOILO CITY (PIA6) -- In a stunning display of wit, elegance, and determination, an Ilongga heptathlete from Leon, Iloilo province was crowned Miss Iloilo 2024.

Alexie Mae Brooks, a 22-year-old standout of the National University (NU) athletics team and a member of the national team that competed in the 2023 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, outshone 14 other beauty queens to clinch the prestigious title during the coronation night on Saturday, January 13, at West Visayas State University Cultural Center in La Paz, Iloilo City.

Joining Brooks as Iloilo’s new queens were: Pearl Angel R. Franco of Ajuy, Iloilo (1st runner-up), and Shaima R. Al Yansuri of Guimbal, Iloilo (2nd runner-up); while four other beauties were recognized as Ilongga Heartfelt Beauties: Nicklyn T. Jutay (Tigbauan, Iloilo), Angel Jed Z. Latorre (Santa Barbara, Iloilo), Raniella Louise A. Aguila (Cabatuan, Iloilo), and Hamda A. Judicpa (San Miguel, Iloilo).

Brooks impressed the audience and judges with her poise and charisma as she dazzled every time she set foot on the stage, bagging also the Best in Swimsuit, Best in Designers’ Fashion Show, Best in Cultural Costume awards, and other corporate accolades during the pageant night.

The victory would pave the way for Brooks to represent the City of Love in the national pageant scene, giving her the chance to showcase the brilliance of an Ilongga and the essence of a modern Filipina, which she stressed in her winning answer during the interview.

“I want women to move forward. Abanse babae! This is something that comes from my heart. I want to empower women. I want to educate and advocate for women from the past and right now. Women could be so much more. We are capable of so much more. Abanse babae,” Brooks answered in the final question.

The newly-crowned queen dedicated the victory to her beloved grandmother whose unwavering love and guidance molded her into the confident and empowered woman she is today.

“I've felt the warmth of your messages and support, and though I can't thank each one of you individually, my heart is overflowing with gratitude,” Brooks also said in a Facebook post, thanking all her supporters.

The Miss Iloilo 2024 competition, which is one of the highlights of this year’s Dinagyang Festival, featured eminent pageant figures who composed the panel of judges, namely 2023 Miss International third runner-up Nicole Borromeo,
