LA PAZ, Abra (PIA) -- A new modern market in Barangay Mudeng in La Paz, Abra is now open for business.
Abra Representative Menchie Bernos, La Paz Mayor JB Bernos, and Abra district engineer Joselito Arao led the opening of the market on January 18.
The market, situated along the Abra-Ilocos Norte Road, is just 5 to 10 minute-drive from the capital town of Bangued. It has a spacious parking lot.
Aside from consumers, this modern market will also benefit micro and small vendors in the province in selling their produce, harvests, and local products at a conducive and accessible area.
Congresswoman Bernos said the market is open to all vendors who are looking for a space to sell their products, especially the small street vendors.
“This market does not only serve La Paz, Lagayan and Danglas but the entire province, so that those small vendors will be accommodated also, and we will not charge them with so many fees,” she said.
The mayor also assured that products, especially meat and vegetables will be sold at the lowest possible prices.
“Diay kababaan nga singir, isu ti maypakat ditoy nga pasdek. Gapu ta adda sursuroten tayo nga Local Revenue Code ti La Paz ket diay kababaan laeng ti mabalin nga singiren, awan ti increase ken adu nga kwenta; ta ti kayat mi masapul nga nababa ken isu ti kalakaan nga merkado publiko ditoy Abra [The lowest charges will be implemented in this market because we are guided by the Local Revenue Code of La Paz. There is no increase and other computations because we want this market to offer the most affordable products in Abra],” Bernos emphasized.
The establishment of a central market in La Paz is a great help to decongest the capital town of Bangued.
“We need to decongest Bangued. Because it is the center of commerce, maybe around 80 percent of economic activities of Abra are in Bangued,” the mayor said.
“We’ve thought of establishing it here in Mudeng, La Paz because of its proximity to Bangued and some other municipalities like Langiden, Danglas and Lagayan,” he added. (CAGT - PIA CAR, Abra)
