10-day gun ban in Iloilo City starts Jan. 19

ILOILO CITY (PIA) - - Starting on Friday, January 19, a ten-day gun ban will be implemented in this city as part of the safety and security measures for the celebration of this year’s Dinagyang Festival.

Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) Director Police Colonel Joeresty P Coronica said in a press report that the gun ban will be in effect starting at 12:01 AM on January 19 until 12:01 AM on January 29, 2024.

The "Suspension of Permit to Transport and Carry Firearms Outside Residence (PTCFOR) during the Dinagyang Festival 2024 which is applicable throughout Iloilo City was based on the memorandum signed by Philippine National Police Chief Police General Benjamin C. Acorda Jr. on January 16, 2024.

Only members of the PNP, AFP, and other Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs), performing official duties and in agency-prescribed uniforms are allowed to carry firearms during the period.

The gun ban will be strictly enforced across all festival venues, procession routes, and related events.

Likewise, carrying sharp objects, deadly weapons, and other contraband is also prohibited.

ICPO personnel will conduct thorough security checks to ensure compliance with this directive and so with the other city laws and ordinances including the anti-smoking ordinance.

Also, ICPO is encouraging the cooperation and understanding of everyone as this measure is essential for the collective safety of the community.

"We are ensuring a firearm-free dinagyang festival. Let's celebrate together in harmony, respecting the safety measures for a secure and enjoyable time while we devote Senior Santo Nino," said PCol Coronica. (AAL/LAF/PIA6 Iloilo/Photos courtesy of ICPO)
