DOLE’s livelihood assistance benefits Davao associations

DAVAO CITY (PIA) – The livelihood assistance program of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) provided an opportunity for members of two associations in Davao City to improve their living conditions while serving their community at the same time.

The MRRD Women’s Association has been earning P30,000 to P35,000 a month from its mini grocery business since they were granted P1 million in financial assistance from the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) in 2021.

In the same year, another P1 million was provided for the association’s rice retail venture, which is now earning P30,000 to P40,000 a month.

MRRD Women’s Association general manager Rosalina Camillon said they have been grateful for DOLE’s assistance, not only for the association’s development but also for the welfare of its 27 members.

Likewise, they received early this year another DILP grant amounting to P499,900 that currently funds its school supplies and photocopy services project, which serves a nearby public elementary school.

The financial aid was turned over on January 9, along with the P577,022 grant given to another group, the MRRD Eagles Association, for its water refilling station project.

“Dako kaayo among pasalamat sa gobyerno ug sa DOLE sa gihatag nga

assistance. Kini among palambuon para sa kaayuhan sa association ug sa among mga myembro (We are very grateful to the government and DOLE for providing us the assistance. We will improve this for the welfare of the association and our members),” Camillon said.

The associations’ name, “MRRD,” stands for Moral Recovery, Restoration, and Development, anchored on the government’s moral recovery program, which enjoins active participation from all sectors.

Both associations have been registered with DOLE since November 2021.

In its press release, the DOLE Davao City Field Office (DOLE-DCFO) said that it has chosen to support the associations’ projects because of their charitable intentions of providing quality water and school supplies to households and schools in their communities.

The MRRD Eagles Association has recognized the need for healthy, clean, and safe drinking water, while the MRRD Women's Association aims to offer a wide array of affordable and good-quality supplies.

As a flagship project of DOLE, the DILP aims to contribute to the government’s agenda for inclusive growth, focusing on job generation and poverty reduction.

The DILP provides grant assistance for capacity-building on livelihood, benefiting the poor, vulnerable, and marginalized workers, either for individual or group projects.

The school supplies and photocopying services is the additional project of the MRRD Women’s Association in Davao City, provided by DOLE-XI on January 9, 2024 through the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) grant amounting to P499,900. DOLE-XI regional director Randolf C. Pensoy congratulated the associations for securing the livelihood grants.

Pensoy commended their commitment to creating opportunities for sustainable livelihoods that align with DOLE’s shared goal of fostering economic growth and empowerment at the grassroots level.

“Your commitment to enhancing the well-being of your members through sustainable projects has truly paid off. This achievement not only reflects the dedication and hard work of your association but also showcases the positive impact it will have on the lives of those involved,” Pensoy pointed out.

He added, “We believe that these grants will empower your community and contribute to the overall economic development of the region.” (CLC/PIA-XI/DOLE-XI)
