QUEZON CITY, (PIA) -- The Quezon City government is currently in the works for the establishment of a women’s museum that will feature the life story of Melchora Aquino, a Filipino heroine known as “Tandang Sora.”
The ‘Tandang Sora Women’s Museum’ will primarily shed light on the important role that Melchora Aquino played in the country’s fight for freedom and nationhood during the Philippine Revolution as well the significant contributions of different women in history.
Many Filipinos have come to know Tandang Sora as the “Ina ng Katipunan at Himagsikan” for the motherly support that she extended to Katipuneros from providing food, shelter, medicines, and other necessities as a means to offer refuge while they continue on the struggle.
It can also be noted that based on historical narratives, the symbolic “cry” and tearing of cedulas took place in Tandang Sora’s own home in Bahay Toro.
The local government is actively pushing for gender-inclusive governance by spearheading initiatives that are geared towards advancing the cause of equality in the city. Part of this thrust is the “No Woman Left Behind” movement that aims to create opportunities for women so they can maximize their potential.

“I’m amazed and impressed by all of the plans that you have. This all boils down to the improvement of quality of life for your constituents. This is clearly one prime example of an LGU (local government unit)-driven initiative that deserves national government support,” said Frasco.
“The redevelopment of the Quezon Memorial Circle is envisioned to be an urban renewal project as well as a space where history, culture, and community can flourish in unison. As this project moves forward, it hopes to bolster local and foreign tourism, providing a green oasis in the heart of the city and a tribute to its rich heritage,” she added.
