P25-M worth of school projects await ‘Dinagyang’ 2024 champion

ILOILO CITY (PIA6) – Different groups joining the school-based Ati Tribes competition have already filled the streets of Iloilo City with colors and beats during the Dinagyang 2024 opening salvo as they vie for P25 million worth of school projects.

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas announced the whooping prize during the recent grand opening which boosted the competitive spirits of the ‘tribe warriors’ – all in the celebration of the city’s vibrant culture and deep devotion of faith to Señor Santo Niño (Holy Child Jesus).

Treñas revealed that Uswag Ilonggo Partylist Rep. Jojo Ang added P10-million worth of projects to the winning Dinagyang school tribe on top of the original P15 million, for a grand total of P25-million worth of projects.

“Without doubt, Dinagyang is the festival to beat. As a three-time Best Tourism Event in the country, it has been known on the national and global stage, making Dinagyang one of the most highly anticipated events for visitors and tourists,” the mayor also proudly told the crowd during the opening salvo in Iloilo Freedom Grandstand.

San Jose Parish Placer -- for ensuring that Ilonggos continue to ignite their faith, and love for local heritage, culture and tradition.

“Preparations, coordination, and executions of our tribes are already in full swing, and everyone is excited to once again witness a spectacular religious and cultural celebration,” he added.

During the opening salvo, the eight tribes joining the Dinagyang Ati Tribes competition gave a sneak peek of their final performances in four judging areas: Freedom Grandstand, Iloilo Provincial Capitol, Mabini-Delgado, and Quezon-Ledesma.

The tribes include the Tribu Ilonganon (Jalandoni Memorial NHS), Tribu Mandu-riyaw (Mandurriao NHS), Tribu Paghidaet (La Paz NHS), Tribu Pan-ay (Fort San Pedro NHS), Tribu Salognon (Jaro NHS), Tribu Sigabong (Ramon Avanceña NHS), Tribu Silak (Iloilo City NHS), and Tribu Taga-Baryo (Bo. Obrero NHS).

The seven participating tribes for the Dinagyang ILOmination Streetdance Competition namely Tribu Ilonggohanon (City Proper), Tribu Kahirup of Pavia (Arevalo), Tribu Manduryaw (Mandurriao), Tribu Sagasa (La Paz), Tribu Sidlangan (La Puz), Tribu IAFA (Molo), and Tribu Buntag- tala (Jaro), also led and performed the unity dance to enliven everyone’s connection and excitement to the 

festival; while dancing warriors of the five tribes for the Sadsad sa Calle Real namely Tribu Aninipay, Tribu Ibata sa Paghiliugyon, Tribu Molave, Tribu Panaad, and Tribu Parianon showcased their merrymaking dance moves.

Meanwhile, Treñas noted that the Dinagyang all throughout the years has provided Ilonggos a platform to showcase “our faith and traditions, and at the same time promoting respect and appreciation for diversity.”

“Through shared experiences, this religious cultural event has the potential to create a harmonious society where different beliefs are valued and celebrated. We hope to continue to build strong relationships with the community and provide a memorable experience for everyone this Dinagyang season,” the mayor stressed. (AAL/JNH/PIA Iloilo)
