In the recent Batang Pinoy games, Naga City won 10 gold medals, seven silver medals and 11 bronze medals from archery, swimming, arnis, gymnastics, pencak silat and taekwondo.
Faye Yvonne Collantes, a 10-year-old Grade 4 student of Minds that Matter Naga, won five gold medals and one silver in Archery Recurve. She received a total of P85,000.
Albert Jose II Amaro, a former student of Naga Parochial School, won four gold medals, a bronze and a silver medal in various swimming events both individual and relay. He received P75,000 from the city government.
"All our hard work and dedication paid off, as we managed to finish faster than our competitors," he posted on Facebook.
Collantes and Amaro, alongside their parents, expressed their joy and honor for their successful endeavors.
Mayor Nelson Legacion congratulated the Nagueño sports teams on their success in a national competition held on December 17 at Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila.
In his speech, he expressed confidence that the city's sports programs were in good hands under his leadership.
All 437 delegates from the Naga City Schools Division received appropriate cash allowances and transportation assistance during their partyicipation in the games.
The Philippine Youth Games – Batang Pinoy was declared as the National Sports Development Program for children through Executive Order 44.
During the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the Department of Education was urged to create gateways for developing talents and sportsmanship among young Filipino athletes.
DepEd was also directed to allocate resources and opportunities to help students and young athletes thrive and succeed in their chosen sports. (PIA 5/ Camarines Sur)
